Agents that answer against governed enterprise data

Client: Community healthcare provider (name confidential)

Questions asked in ordinary language, answered against the warehouse and the documents behind it, with a citation on every answer and the existing access model enforced in the data layer.

The situation

The answers people needed were spread across a governed warehouse and a library of documents nobody had time to read. Getting a number meant routing the question through the handful of people who could write the query, and getting the context behind that number meant somebody going and finding the paragraph.

The constraint

The data is governed, and access to it is not uniform. Whatever was built had to respect the permissions already in place rather than reading with a service account and filtering afterwards.

Where it runs

Inside the customer's own data platform, so the data does not move and the existing row and column level security continues to apply.

What we built

  • Agents that take a question in ordinary language and answer it against the warehouse
  • Retrieval across the documents and datastores behind the numbers, not just the tables
  • A citation on every answer: the record, the query, or the paragraph it came from
  • Permissions inherited from the existing access model, enforced in the data layer
